[1Ha03] Reactions of chloride ions on Au surface in electrolyte

Chloride ions on gold is crucial for applications however the details are not understood. Using SPM, we analyzed chloride reactions on gold in electrolyte. Positive potential sweep dissolves gold; reaction involves chloride ions and surface Au atoms. This study reveals distinct atomic structure linked to dissolution, different from vacuum. Changing mechanical properties near dissolution observed, likely triggering reaction.
