Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected magnetic structures and are stable despite their nanometer scale size. They are promising for an application for memory technologies. Writing and deleting them individually are needed, and local methods will be preferred for this application. We select force as the local means. The aim of this study is to control magnetic skirmions by force and to quantify it. When an external magnetic field was applied to Fe/Ir(111), an individual magnetic skyrmion was observed with scanning tunneling microscopy. The tip was brought closer to apply local force. Then annihilation was observed in force measured with atomic force microscopy (AFM). We discuss what kind of force is acting between the tip and the sample during annihilation to obtain the origin of the skyrmion annihilation.
