Biohybrid systems, which are composed of biological and synthetic components, have been proposed as the integration of microfabrication techniques and biological techniques. Among the biohybrid systems, biohybrid soft robots powered by cultured muscle tissue have gathered attentions, and robot movements such as grasping, carrying, and moving have been achieved [1]. However, designs and driving mechanisms of biohybrid robots have been limited since skeletal muscle tissue are immobilized on the robot skeleton or lack of diversity of robotic skeleton in previous biohybrid robots In this presentation, I introduce our method for the formation of cultured tissue with the robot skeleton and the characteristics of biohybrid robots.
