[S39] Methods of Analysis in Health Science Symposium Organized by Division of Pharmaceutical Health Sciences and Environmental Toxicology: Recent trends in chemical substance analysis in water environment

Mon. Mar 27, 2023 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM [Room G1] Conference Hall (2F)

Organizer: Toshinari Suzuki, Yasuyuki Fujiwara

In this symposium, we will discuss the four issues that have been raised in recent years regarding chemical substances in the aquatic environment: First, for perfluorinated organic compounds (PFASs), such as PFOS and PFOA, the PFASs toxicity assessments and their occurrence in the aquatic environment have been reviewed in EU and the USA. In Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) have been monitoring the aquatic environment. Second, the MHLW has issued guidance on the environmental impact assessment of pharmaceuticals for human use, while the MOE is monitoring and conducting risk assessment for pharmaceuticals and personal care products. Third, for pesticides highly interested in drinking water and food, there are concerns that the number of researchers involved in the analysis may decrease in the near future; therefore, efficient analysis of different pesticides and other chemical substances is required. Finally, the problem of helium gas supply, the main carrier for gas chromatography, has resurfaced this year, and many related departments are under pressure to deal with it.
