Greetings on the occasion of the 76th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Cell Biology.

It is my great honor to host this conference from July 17 to 19, 2024, at the Tsukuba International Congress Center. I am also pleased to announce that the Young Scientist Meeting for Cell Biology will be held on July 16 at the University of Tsukuba.

In recent years, the nature of scientific meetings has changed dramatically. While advances in online technology have enabled efficient information sharing, the value of face-to-face interactions has been brought into renewed focus. Our conference theme, "A Gathering Place for Researchers to Meet and Discuss," emphasizes not only the presentation of research findings but also direct dialogue and exchange among researchers.

The rapid development of AI is ushering in a transformative era for scientific research. It is precisely in such times that conferences have become increasingly important as a venue for human researchers to gather and engage in discussion.

Our conference program includes the following events:

1. Selection of the Best Presentation Award for Young Talent
       (Afternoon of Day 1)

2. Plenary Lectures by Prof. Fiona Watt and Prof. Nozomu Yachie
       (Evening of Day 1)

3. Welcome Reception for networking
(Evening of Day 1, free of charge)

4. Special session organized by the Young Meeting for Cell Biology
       (Afternoon of Day 2)

5. Special session on trends in optical microscopy research and development
       (Morning of Day 3)

Additionally, we have scheduled 18 symposia proposed by our members, 52 oral presentations, and 184 poster presentations.

A distinguishing feature of the Japan Society for Cell Biology is its scale, which facilitates face-to-face interactions among participants. We have prepared this conference not only to deepen exchanges within familiar fields and among colleagues but also to promote new encounters and interdisciplinary collaborations.

We sincerely hope that these three days will provide each of you with an opportunity to discuss the frontiers of cell biology, gain new insights, and cultivate professional networks. We look forward to your active participation.

Lastly, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to the many companies, organizations, and researchers who have supported the organization of this conference.
