[2L04] Analysis of mass transfer effect on iodine release from aqueous phase under severe accident conditions
Keywords:Iodine chemistry, KICHE, Mass transfer coefficient, Two-film theory
An effective mass transfer coefficient was introduced for investigating a combined effect of chemical and mass transfer processes on I2 release from the aqueous phase with water radiolysis using KICHE code. While pH is stated to be the most important parameter for minimizing the release of the volatile iodine under the SA conditions, this work has showed that the chemical processes affecting the iodine release from the aqueous phase are not only dependent on pH, but also are tightly related with the volatile iodine mass transfer. The evaluation of enhanced mass transfer phenomena should be improved, especially for scrubbing and containment depressurization.
