[P1-93] Risk factors predict subsequent epilepsy in children with their febrile seizures: a meta-analysis

Zhaoxia LI (Department of Pediatrics, the Second Hospital of Shandong University, China)

[Introduction] Febrile seizure is the most common seizure disorder of childhood. Simple febrile seizures have a better prognosis, with less risk of epilepsy or cognitive dysfunction, but complex febrile seizures are a risk factor for epilepsy. [Methodology] A literature review of the main risk factors for epilepsy after febrile seizures was performed using Pubmed, Embase and three Chinese databases (CNKI, Wanfang and VIP). [Results] RR and 95% CI for age of onset less than 1 year old, recurrent seizures, complex febrile seizures, family history of convulsions and perinatal abnormality were 3.54(2.68-4.68), 3.16(2.28-4.38), 4.71(3.63-6.12), 3.26(2.47-4.35) and 3.28(2.47-4.35), respectively. [Conclusions] Age of onset less than 1 year old, recurrent seizures, complex febrile seizures, family history of convulsions and perinatal abnormality were risk factors for epilepsy after febrile seizures.
