Keywords:Park management, Public-Private-Partnership, Park renovation, Citizen participation
This paper reports on a case study of renovation planning to encourage diverse citizen participation through public-private partnerships, using Arima Fuji Park in Hyogo Prefecture as a case study. Public works, including park renovation, are often undertaken only by a public sector with large budget at one time. However, in this project, we proposed a different approach to renovation design in order to resolve the aforementioned issues and to realize a sustainable management that inherits the concept of citizen participation and collaboration as the characteristics of this park. The features of our approach are: (1) continuous renovation in small units, (2) openness in the renovation process. The renovation of Arimafuji Park, approached with two key concepts, was able to generate a different form of citizen participation as compared to first opening " Dream Program", including the establishment of new citizen groups and new park management activities led by children. In addition, new activities have begun to emerge, existing organizations have also begun to improve their motivation and think about how to succeed their activities to the next generation.
