Global traffic crashes have caused an estimated number of 1.3 million deaths and 50 million injuries annually. To reduce this number, the United Nations suggested increased usage of multimodal transportation and land use planning. This study analyses how effective multimodal transportation is in improving global traffic safety by comparing existing transportation options globally. A global database was built with city data coming from various government agencies and then analysed using correlation analysis. The findings showed that fatality numbers drop with higher modal share in walking and increased with higher modal share in private transportation usage. Decreasing the modal share of private transportation in favour of other transportation modes is key to lowering traffic fatalities.
