[011] Impact Analysis of Solar Lanterns for Non-electrified Villages in Vietnam: From the Primal Survey in 2022

Kozue Kashiwazaki

Due to the increasing damages by natural disasters and pollution from the recent industrial farming, poverty and environmental issues are getting more serious in the mountainous remote villages in developing countries. In order to support their basic human needs, several projects applying the advanced remote technology are being used in late years. In the context of global decarbonization, renewable energy such as solar and water energy at local level is also commended to be useful to help expand projects. These off-grid projects make it possible for small-scale and several actors such as private company and NGO/NPO to join instead of large-scale support by the government. Meanwhile, careful examination about the impact is being emphasized which can change receiver’s lifestyle including valuable cultures, beliefs and relationships in the communityi (Konaka, 2018).
This research aims to examine the impact of portable solar lanterns in non-electrified villages can have on homes, families, and community levels in the northern and central areas of Vietnam. Through the findings, it is expected to consider the relevant process and management for the future implementation of small-scale support projects.
