[R4P-03] Inorganic synthesis of dolomite at ordinary temperatures and pressures
[Presentation award entry]
Keywords:disordered dolomite, Microbe-mediated mineralization
Precipitation experiments were conducted by changing the Ca2 +, Mg2 +, and HCO3-ion concentrations and pH of the solution. Disordered dolomite is formed even in ordinary temperatures and pressures where (1) Ca2 + and Mg2 + concentrations are 1 to 1.5 times that of seawater, (2) HCO3-concentration is 50 mM or more, and (3) pH is from 8.2 to 9. Since some salt lakes in which dolomite precipitation has been reported satisfy this condition, it is possible that inorganic precipitation overlaps in addition to bacterial-mediated precipitation of dolomite.
