How should we deal with the frequent damage to embankments during earthquakes? (3)

Thu. Nov 23, 2023 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM G415 (PACIFICO Yokohama North, 4F)

Chairperson: Takao Hashimoto (Kokushikan University)

In recent years, earthquake damage to road embankments, railway embankments, residential land developments, river embankments, agricultural reservoir embankments, and tailings dams has been frequent. Reasons include the lack of seismic design until recently and the weakening of fill materials, retaining walls, and drainage pipes after construction due to aging. In response, seismic design and inspections have recently been undertaken and countermeasures have been implemented. This session aims to discuss a wide range of topics, from clarification of the seismic behavior of embankments to investigation, design, inspection, and countermeasure methods. An invited lecture will be given on the Embankment Regulation Law, which was promulgated in the wake of the mudslide damage in Atami, Japan.
