In recent years, there has been a great deal of research on CCU, a technology for converting carbon dioxide into useful substances. In the CO2 conversion by using heterogeneous catalysts, C1 products such as methanol, CO, and CH4 are produced. On the other hand, it has been reported that ethanol was produced from CO2 by using heterogeneous catalysts with two components. We assume that electrochemical processes forming a mixed potential progress for the ethanol synthesis without applying a potential. In this study, we aim to demonstrate the mixed potential-driven reaction using a model reaction system. Ethanol, methanol, formic acid, and CO were confirmed as products of CO2 hydrogenation in the model reaction system. The calculation of the amount of each product revealed that formic acid was the main product. However, no correlation was observed between the current value and the amount of product. On the other hand, ethanol was produced from CO and H2 with reaction current. This means that CO is a candidate of the reaction intermediate for the ethanol synthesis via the formation of a mixed potential.
