[Objective] Subclinical mastitis is a silent disease of dairy herds, has a huge impact on farm economics worldwide. This study aimed to explore the effects of feeding probiotic (Bacillus coagulans MTCC 25250) on the body reserves, blood metabolites, yield and milk composition of cows suffering from subclinical mastitis.
[Methods] In this study, a total of 20 subclinical mastitis cows were randomly assigned into four groups (5 cows/group). Four probiotic MTCC 25250 doses, such as 0, 15, 30, and 45 g/d per cow, were supplemented with a total mixed diet and continued for 60 days. Milk and Blood samples were collected at start and end date of study to determine milk composition and blood parameters.
[Results] Milk yield and compositions were improved and reduced somatic cell and bacterial counts when cows fed 30 and 45 g/d MTCC 25250. In blood parameters, red blood cell, hemoglobin, lymphocyte, and monocyte counts were significantly higher for cows fed 15, 30 and 45 g/d MTCC 25250 than control diet but decreased trend observed for WBC and neutrophil. MTCC 25250 can be a potential probiotic to mitigate subclinical mastitis.
