[S21] Frontiers of structural biology research for drug discovery

Fri. Mar 29, 2024 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM [Room 301] Conference Center 301 (3F)

Organizer: Umeharu Ohto (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Univ. of Tokyo), Koh Takeuchi (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Univ. of Tokyo)

Structural biology, which aims to understand biological phenomena based on three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, is witnessing a transformative phase. Beyond the established X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, the recent advancements in cryo-electron microscopy and high-precision protein structure prediction programs have made structural information more accessible. The integration of these structural insights is becoming increasingly important across all fields of life sciences. In drug discovery, the strategic use of this structural knowledge is essential for not only the efficiency of drug discovery but also the development of drugs with novel mechanisms of action. This symposium aims to bring together five of Japan's leading researchers in structural drug discovery to share their latest findings. We hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity to promote the development of structural drug discovery.
