[S13] MONOTORI science up-to-date

Fri. Mar 29, 2024 1:15 PM - 3:15 PM [Room 304] Conference Center 304 (3F)

Organizer: Masayoshi Arai (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Osaka Univ.), Toshio Morikawa (Pharm. Res. Technol. Inst., Kindai Univ.), Takaaki Kubota (Fac. Med., Dent. and Pharm. Sci., Okayama Univ.)

Naturally occurring organic compounds (natural products) found in MONOTORI the fundamental technique of natural product chemistry, possess a wide variety of biological activities due to the diversity of their chemical structures. Then, natural products contribute not only to drug discovery research but also to the development of chemical biology research, which seeks to understand diverse biological activities at the molecular level. Moreover, natural products and related research sometimes lead to the discovery of new life phenomena and even the creation of new research areas. In this symposium, four symposiasts, who have succeeded in discovering new natural products by MONOTORI using creative methods, will be invited and present on "Actinomycetes expand the field of organoarsenic natural products," "How can the structural diversity of natural products be extended?," "Structural determination, total synthesis, and biological activity of iezoside, a highly potent calcium pump inhibitor from the marine cyanobacterium," and "Discovering potential of natural products through MONOTORI science," respectively. We'd like to actively discuss the significance and the real thrill of discovering new natural products, and the importance of MONOTORI research in each specialized field. We hope the symposium is the place to re-understand the attractiveness, importance and possibilities of MONOTORI for young scientists, and researchers of companies, and also would like to be that the symposium promotes activation of the research area.
