[S22] Development and practical application of materials for mental and physical self-care: Toward longevity and health

Fri. Mar 29, 2024 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM [Room 304] Conference Center 304 (3F)

Organizer: Masayoshi Arai (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Osaka Univ.), Atsuo Sekiyama (Grad. Sch. of Pharm. Sci., Osaka Univ.), Emiko Kasahara (Grad. Sch. of Pharm. Sci., Osaka Univ.)

Due to the rapid super-aging of the developed world, extending healthy life expectancy has become a global challenge. As a countermeasure, the maintenance and promotion of good health and improvement of pre-symptomatic state through self-care of the mind and body (mental and physical) is an excellent approach to solving this problem, which is expected to not only extend healthy life expectancy but also improve QOL, reduce social security costs, and secure the working population. On the other hand, natural products, naturally derived ingredients, and food materials are expected to be materials for self-care tools. However, in order for safe and effective self-care tools to be continuously provided from them, new scientific considerations are needed, including material selection, functionality, analysis, assurance of safety, and even the complexity and diversity of the human body. In this symposium, four speakers will present the front lines and current issues in the utilization of natural products and their ingredients as food, cosmetics, and functional ingredients from the perspectives of regulatory science, analytical science, food and health, and the utilization of unutilized food ingredients for health. We would like to discuss with the participants how the research (and researchers) is required to develop and derive the natural products and naturally derived ingredients as materials for health and longevity, and to promote their use in society.
