Symposium
Sat. Mar 30, 2024 9:45 AM - 11:45 AM [Room 418] Conference Center 418 (4F)

Placenta is responsible for functions such as supplying nutrition and oxygen to the fetus and eliminating foreign substances. From this viewpoint, normal maintenance and development of the placenta is essential for the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy and healthy growth of fetus. Thus, placenta is important for the fetus as a temporary organ until delivery, and it has been suggested that placental hypoplasia and abnormal placental function not only lead to gestational hypertension syndrome and fetal growth restriction, but also pose a risk of future diseases. However, the evaluation of abnormal placental function and the understanding of the mechanism of placentation have not yet made sufficient progress. This symposium will focus on (1) basic and clinical research aimed at elucidating placental insufficiency and the pathology caused by its abnormalities and developing treatment strategies, (2) understanding the placental permeation function and placenta formation that control the fetal environment, and (3) research on health impact assessment of in vitro foreign substances from the perspective of placental toxicity. We would like to use this symposium as an opportunity to introduce the latest topics and discuss how to ensure and promote the health of the next generation through the placenta.
