The Federation of Pharmaceutical Societies of Japan, established in July 2023, functions as a platform for research exchange and sharing knowledge between basic and clinical researchers, playing a crucial role in consolidating pharmaceutical expertise. It is anticipated to contribute significantly to the advancement of cancer treatment and the improvement of patients' quality of life. Many cancer patients grapple with various side effects, as well as psychological and economic challenges associated with pharmacotherapy. Therefore, the role of clinical pharmacists in cancer treatment is paramount. Clinical pharmacists serve as central figures in understanding and addressing issues affecting patients' lives using their pharmaceutical knowledge. In the clinical setting, pharmacists collect and analyze information, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to provide optimal drug therapy and contribute to patient satisfaction and enhanced quality of life. On the other hand, challenges arise in healthcare due to a lack of evidence, necessitating clinical pharmacists to actively contribute to the creation of new evidence.
This symposium, jointly organized by the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan and the Japanese Journal of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences for the first time. It brings together experts such as Board certified Oncology Pharmacists and Board certified Senior Oncology Pharmacists to discuss clinical research and the generation of new evidence. The symposium is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for discussions across a broad spectrum of fields, including the future of patient care shaped by analytical chemistry, the pivotal role pharmacists well-versed in pharmacological properties should play, novel research related to cancer treatment utilizing medical big data, and the bridging research between clinical and academic settings. We look forward to the symposium becoming a milestone event that paves the way for 'Pioneering New Cancer Therapies.
