[S66] AI opens up the future of drug discovery and medical care

Sun. Mar 31, 2024 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM [Room 303] Conference Center 303 (3F)

Organizer: Hidetoshi Arima (Sch. Pharm., Daiichi Pharm. Univ.), Masakazu Sekijima (Dept. Comp. Sci., Tokyo Tech)

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is rapidly advancing in the areas of medical care and drug discovery. In this symposium, titled "AI to Pioneer Future Medical Care and Drug Discovery," lectures by four symposiasts active at the forefront of this field were planned to explore how AI/ML technologies are being utilized in medical care and drug discovery. Dr. Kano (Kyoto Univ.) will introduce his latest research results on the design of local brain cooling devices using AI/ML and explain their effectiveness as an important technology for efficiently suppressing abnormal brain activity in epilepsy and stroke. Dr. Arima (Daiichi Univ. of Pharm.) will focus on the progress of AI technology in the area of drug formulation and DDS, and will present case studies on the application of AI to design of lipid nanoparticles and supramolecular. Dr. Yamanishi (Nagoya Univ.) will introduce the use of AI in fusion analysis of multilevel omics information and pharmaceutical big data and its wide range of applications. Dr. Sekijima (Tokyo Tech.) will introduce his latest research on hit compound search for 3CL Protease of novel coronaviruses and neuraminidase countermeasures for influenza, and describe innovative methods using deep learning. Through these talks, participants will gain an understanding of the potential of AI and ML technologies to bring about new innovations in medicine and drug discovery, and discuss with participants the possibilities for further developments.
