[S57] Approaches to advanced pharmaceutical education that responds to the needs of society

The Committee for the Study of Six-Year Education and Research in Pharmacy at Public Universities is working on various important issues confronting pharmacy education. Among them, "promotion of postgraduate education and training of pharmacists" and "elimination of regional maldistribution of pharmacists" are the most urgent and important issues. In this symposium, to discuss these issues in depth and from various angles with our members, MEXT and MHLW will give keynote speeches titled "Current Issues in Pharmaceutical Education" and "Measures for Securing and Segregating Pharmacists," respectively, to share information about the current situation and measures. On the other hand, public universities will introduce three topics. The first topic will be a survey on the career paths of graduates of six-year pharmacy schools at public universities. In the second part, the presentation will focus on the "Strengths of Pharmacy: Research Power Leads to a Bright Future for Pharmacists," which is aimed at fostering excellent research skills in undergraduate and graduate schools. The third lecture will introduce the projects of four public universities adopted by MEXT under the "Support Project for Advanced Pharmacy Education Responding to Regional Medical Needs," and discuss the future-oriented "role of pharmacy schools in supporting regional medical care" to eliminate the uneven distribution of pharmacists in the region.
