East-West disparities have been an important topic in China’s regional devel- opment. However, there is a lack of analysis combining temporal and spatial perspectives to investigate the dynamic change of east-west development dis- parities in the background of digitalization. Therefore, this paper uses ESTDA (Exploratory Space-Time Data Analysis) to analyze the east-west inequality of economic development and digital financial inclusion from 2011-2019 in China’s 31 provinces. First, the global analysis results show the existence of spatial depen- dence and the validity of Tobler’s first law for economic development and digital financial inclusion. Second, the local analysis results show the focal regions of east-west development inequality. The space-time analysis results further reveal that the improvement of economic development’s east-west inequality is due to the advancement in the West and the recession in the East. And digital finan- cial inclusion also shows signs of improvement, with the developed eastern areas regressing. Last, there is a strong association between economic development and digital inclusion in attribute and geographical space because of the high degree of regional overlapping. Overall, these results provide new perspectives for iden- tifying key regions of east-west development disparities and tracking changes in those critical regions.
