Deadline of field trip application was extended until 17:00 on Monday, July 31. Earlier application is recommended because it is closed as soon as seats are occupied on each course on a first-come-first-served basis.

The acceptance of the application for the field trip "Course 3: Environment and Recycling" was finished because the number of applications reached capacity .
 
Field trip courses (4 one-day courses)

Course 1: Earth and Resources
Date: September 29, 2017
Maximum participants: 18 (First come, first serve basis)
Fee: JPY3,500 (cost of bus in Horonobe and lunch)
* You should buy your own tickets from Sapporo to Horonobe
Information: Meeting place: JR station Horonobe (9:00 am); Drop-off place: JR station Horonobe (5:30 pm)
Note: Book your own transportation (Sapporo-Horonobe) and accomodation

Course 2: Coal (Sorachi)
Date: September 29, 2017
Maximum participants: 44 (First come, first serve basis)
Fee: JPY5,000 (cost of bus and lunch)
* You can bring your luggages.
Information: Meeting place: JR Sapporo station North Bus Terminal (8:00 am); Drop-off places: New Chitose Airport (4:30 pm) and Sapporo Station (6:00 pm)

Course 3: Environment and Recycling
Date: September 29, 2017
Maximum participants: 30 (First come, first serve basis)
Fee: JPY5,500 (cost of bus and lunch)
* You can bring your luggages.
Information: Meeting place: JR Sapporo station North Bus Terminal (7:50 am); Drop-off places: New Chitose Airport (3:00 pm) and Sapporo Station (4:30 pm)

Course 4: Recycling
Date: September 29, 2017
Maximum participants: 45 (First come, first serve basis)
Fee: JPY3,000 (cost of bus only)
* You can bring your luggages.
Information: Meeting place: JR Sapporo station North Bus Terminal (7:50 am); Drop-off places: Sapporo Station (12:30 pm) 

- Field trips will be cancelled if the number of participants is not enough.
- Schedule might be changed due to weather or traffic conditions.
- Include extra time margins prior to booking your flights and trains.

Registration

It can be accepted only by email during May 17 - July 31, 2017 (until 5:00 pm Japan time at the last day) on a first come, first serve basis because of limited seats. Before registering online, make sure that you received a confirmation email from MMIJ office. Late registration will not be accepted.

1. Email to MMIJ office (info@mmij.or.jp) the following:
  Course name, your name, your affiliation and contact number on the day of the field trip. 

2. Wait for the confirmation email from MMIJ office.

3. After receiving your confirmation email, log-in to your account and select your field trip course on the field trip segment.

4. Finish your field trip registration by paying the fee until August 9, 2017 (until 5:00 pm Japan time). Note: If payment was not made, your booking will be cancelled.

Course 1: Earth and Resources
Places to visit:
  • Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) Horonobe Underground Research Center,
  • Reindeer farm (Horonobe town)
  • Horonobe Research Institute for the Subsurface Environment (H-RISE),
  • Sarobetsu Wetland Center (Toyotomi town)
Schedule (September 29, 2017):
  • 9:00 - Meeting at JR Horonobe station
  • 9:30-12:00 – JAEA Horonobe Underground Research Center
  • 12:00-13:00 – Lunch (Reindeer farm)
  • 13:20-14:20 – H-RISE
  • 15:00-17:00 – Sarobetsu Wetland Center (Wetland and peat tour with guide)
  • 17:30 – Drop-off at JR Horonobe station
JR information:
  • Please buy your own tickets from Sapporo to Horonobe and include extra time margins prior to booking your trains.
  • *Example of schedule by JR: September 28 (18:30) Sapporo (Lilac Limited Express #35)→ Asahikawa station (Transit to Sarobetsu Limited Express #3) (20:06) → Horonobe Station (22:52) and stay for 1 night at Horonobe town.
 
Course 2: Coal (Sorachi)

  • - Yubari Coal Bed Methane Site (Yubari City)

  • 8:00 - JR Sapporo station North Bus Terminal
  • 9:00-12:00 – Open pit coal mine and lunch in the bus (Lunch-box)
  • 13:30-14:30 – Yubari Coal Bed Methane Site
  • 16:30 –Drop-off at New Chitose Airport
  • 18:00 – Drop-off at JR Sapporo station
 
Course 3: Environment and Recycling

  • Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage Facility (Japan CCS Co., Ltd.), Tomakomai City
  • Home appliances recycling center (Hokkaido Eco-Recycle System), Tomakomai city
