The poly(m-phenylenediamine) and reduced graphene oxide (PmPD/RGO) composite was prepared though polymerization of m-phenylenediamine monomer before adding graphene oxide, and further reduction by hydrate hydrazine. The composite was utilized as the effective adsorbent for the adsorption of Cr(VI) in strong acidic solution, and showed better stability than PmPD. The composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Zeta potential (ZETA), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that the composite was prepared mainly by electrostatic attraction between PmPD and GO. The maximum absorptivity of the composite was up to 526.32 mg g-1 calculated by Langmuir model. Desorption experiments showed the composite can be regenerated and reused. No obvious loss of removal efficiency was observed after five consecutive cycles. A wild application prospect of the composite in treating strong acidic Cr(VI)-contaminated water is expectable.
