We investigated recovery of Zn separately from mixed battery wastes by pilot-scale metallurgical process. The collected mixed battery wastes are treated by heat and then physical treatment is carried out. By magnetic separation process, the magnetic elements such as iron, cobalt, nickel in 3.35mm undersized sample are separated from non-magnetic substance. The sample for acid leaching contains 0.1% Co, 0.7% Ni, 0.5% Fe, 25% Mn and 24% Zn. The leaching and solvent extraction processes are carried out to recover Zn from other metals by pilot-scale facilities under the optimum conditions from the results of lab-scale tests, respectively. At the optimum conditions, the solution which contains 76g/L Zn and only 5.6mg/L Mn is obtained. From this solution, high purity ZnSO4 and Zn metal can be produced by vacuum distillation and electrowinning process, respectively.
