[31001-12-04] Lignocellulose valorization to polyhydroxyalkanoates by Cupriavidus basilensis B-8

Lignocellulosic biomass is considered as a potential sustainable resource for the production of bio-chemicals due to their global abundance. In this study, we used Cupriavidus basilensis B-8 to metabolize natural lignin-enriched streams, i.e., lignocellulose alkaline pretreated liquor (APL) and lignocellulosic residue, to produce eco-friendly bioplastics polyhydroxyalkanoates. The results showed that 245.4 mg×L-1 of P(9.9%-2-hydroxybutyrate acid-co-86.5%-3-hydroxybutyrate acid-co-3.6%-4-hydroxyvaleric acid) and 25 mg×L-1 of P(5.9%-2-hydroxybutyrate acid-co-92.9%-3-hydroxybutyrate acid-co-1.2%-4-hydroxyheptanoate acid) were obtained, respectively. The properties associated with the produced PHAs suggested that they were suitable for thermoplastic processing.
