[31001-12-12] A study on marble based green cement and green pervious concrete

In recent years, carbon dioxide emission and saving energy have become an important issue. According to the statistics from Environmental Protection Administration of Taiwan, the production of the cement in Taiwan could reach 7.8 million tons of greenhouse gas every year. Therefore, how to reduce the carbon dioxide emission turns out to be an urgent problem to resolve. Using geopolymer to replace the traditional Portland cement is one of the ways to solve this problem. Comparing with the Portland cement, the process for manufacturing geopolymer could help reducing almost 80% of carbon dioxide emission. In this study, marble and slag were used as the raw materials to produce the geopolymer green cement. The experiment results were shown that the setting time of green cement paste can be controlled more than 4hrs, and the compressive strength reached 65MPa after 28 days curing time. The marble-based geopolymer was also trying to make pervious concrete. Experimental result shows that the compressive strength of geopolymer pervious concrete was 10MPa and the permeability coefficient can be reached 1.3 cm/s. Marble-based geopolymer provides great performance in practices and it has potential for further engineering application.
