[3401-09-06] Preparation of CaTiO3 from FeTiO3 and Its Reduction by Molten Salt Elecgtrolysis
Chairman: Koji Yasuda (Kyoto University)
Keywords:ilmenite, tartaric acid, molten salt electrolysis, titanium, pervskite
Ore of metallic titanium consists of FeTiO3. Commercially availableFeTiO3 regent was taken as starting material of this work, and it was dissolved in acid. Fe is removed wet-chemically and CaTiO3 was synthesized. This was electrochemically decomposed in titanium basket cathode, using CaCl2-CaO molten salt.
After dissolution in HF acid, F- was removed and Fe was separated as FeS under masking by tataric ammonium. By adding CaCl2 and CaO, the precipitate was calcined to CaTiO3 at 6C. After optimization of operating parameters in molten salt electrolysis, a fine titanium powder with good quality suitable for industrial application (<.12%Fe, <.3%O) was successfully obtained.
