BC@poly(m-phenylenediamine)(PmPD) nanocomposites was fabricated using pulverized bacterial cellulose (BC) aerogel as scaffold by in-situ polymerization with sodium persulfate as an oxida. The interaction between fibril and PmPD was identified through measured pH in the process of monomer adsorbed on the fiber. The structure and morphology revealed that PmPD nanopaticles in diameter from 50 to 200 nm was successfully encapsulated by BC with non-agglomerated and existed two different coalescent patterns. The incorporation of PmPD significantly enhanced adsorption capacity of BC from 4.86mg/g to 340.78mg/g, which was far beyond the other absorbents based on BC that has been reported. The mechanism of highly efficient Cr(VI) adsorption onto BC@PmPD nanocomposites was attributed to the effective reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) by amine group and Cr(III) successively chelated imino groups, which were spontaneous and endothermic. The BC@PmPD nanocomposites can be readily recycled by form a thin film with fine tensile strength by vacuum filtration and maintain 83% capacity after fifth usage. BC@poly(m-phenylenediamine) nanocomposites present excellent application for purification of Cr(VI) wastewater.
