[PE1-025] Synthesis of the SBA-15 from mine tailings and selective adsorption of gold ions

The SBA-15 adsorbents were synthesized from mine tailings. Porosity can be obtained after removal of surfactants by heat treatment or chemical extraction. Obtained samples show type IV isotherm and H1 hysteresis loop, according to the IUPAC classification, implying the formation of cylindrical and hexagonal mesoporous structure. The SBA-15 functionalized using organic functional group solution which contains thiol (-SH) groups. The adsorption experiments of gold ions for evaluation of adsorbents were carried out in batch system at room temperature. The results of adsorption of the functionalized adsorbents were successfully fitted to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second order kinetics model. In multi components system, the functionalized SBA-15 achieved over 90% of adsorption capacity. Regeneration efficiency of 95% was achieved after 5 times of adsorption-desorption cycles.
