[PE1-027] Investigation of campus carbon footprint - A study for elementary school
Keywords:Emission factor, Carbon emission, Elementary school, Waste disposal fees
In order to reduction the environmental changes and natural disasters caused by global warming, the reduction of greenhouse gas emission has become the main issue in Taiwan. In this study, the campus greenhouse gas emission was analyzed from the recent 9 years water and electric consumption. Additionally, the collections of common waste disposal fees (i.e. trash clearance charge) from the tap water users by respective household meters in accordance with article 24 of the Waste Disposal Act were also compared. Results show that the average total carbon emissions from the water and electric consumption were 2679.1 Kg CO2 e per year and 98645.2 Kg CO2 e per year. The carbon emissions from the water and electric consumption per capita and per day were 7.5 g CO2 e and 277.8 g CO2 e. The average common waste disposal fees were 48781 NTD per year. Comparison with the Taiwan per capita carbon emissions (11.9 tons per year per person) in 2015, the carbon emissions from the elementary school were quite low than other industry activity. Thus, the education for energy saving and carbon reduction in the elementary school have a significant effect.
