Gold is widely used in electronic industry because of its excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance and catalytic property. Because gold is a kind of precious metal, it is important to recycle gold from E-waste. In this study, a new amid extractant MDDGA was synthesized through N-alkylated and N-acylation reaction. The extraction behavior of Au with MDDGA in 80% dodecane, 20% 2- ethylhexanol from hydrochloric acid was studied. MDDGA as a 3-oxy-diglycolamide extractant is a good extractant for rare earth metals extraction. But in this study, we firstly found that MDDGA is also good at extracting Au. The results showed that the extraction efficiency of Au is excellent whereas that for Pd, Pt and Cu is poor, when the hydrochloric acid concentration is between 0 and 3 mol/L. The extraction ration increases with the extractant concentration, and H+ concentration,which indicates that the extraction of Au with MDDGA is ion association reaction. High extraction efficiency of Au of 99.8% using MDDGA was obtained.
